Legacy Giving

Leave a legacy of love. Throughout your life, you showed your love of animals. That compassion will live on in the lives you have touched. You also might want to consider making a legacy gift to ensure that your support for the causes that are closest to your heart can continue into the future. A legacy gift is easy to arrange and can be made for any amount you wish. A legacy gift may offer significant tax benefits for you or your heirs. You can continue to save animal lives and support animal welfare by leaving a legacy to the Arnprior & District Humane Society. You can do this through the following:

Bequests

Bequests are gifts specified in your Will. You can designate either a certain amount of money, a percentage of your estate, a particular asset or the residual of your estate. A Will gives clear legal instructions regarding your intentions for your estate and is important even for those with modest assets

Life Insurance

Life Insurance is one of the easiest ways to make a major gift to the Arnprior & District Humane Society. You can make us the owner and beneficiary of a new or an existing life insurance policy. The premiums you pay qualify for tax credits for you and the legacy you create will live on.

Stocks & Securities

Stocks and Securities became popular ways to donate after the 2009 Federal Government budget when the capital gains tax on such securities was eliminated if donated to a charity. A donation of publically traded stocks or securities directly to the Arnprior & District Humane Society will eliminate any taxable capital gain to yourself and you will also receive a charitable donation receipt equal to the market value of the stocks or securities on the day they are received by us.

RRSPs and RRIFs

RRSPs and RRIFs are considered gifts when the Arnprior & District Humane Society is named as the beneficiary. These assets are highly taxed after death; by donating them you would offset the tax that your estate would owe upon your death.

Major Gifts-in-Kind

Major Gifts-in-Kind can be gifts of property. For example, real estate, works of art, jewellery, and more. We will issue a tax receipt after independent appraisals.

Charitable Remainder Trust

Charitable Remainder Trust where you may wish to set up a trust and name the Arnprior & District Humane Society as a beneficiary at the time the trust is to be distributed. You receive the income from the trust and we receive whatever remains in the trust after you pass away. One of the tax advantages to this planned gift includes a donation receipt at the time the gift is made.

We strongly suggest that your will or other financial arrangements be made in consultation with your lawyer and/or other financial advisor. This ensures that the document or arrangements are legally binding, express your wishes, and maximize the tax benefits to you or to your estate.
