Emergency Vet Relief Funds Required for Our “Three Amigos”
In the direst and seemingly hopeless of situations, the Arnprior & District Humane Society, a NO KILL Shelter, gives one the opportunity to see how resilient animals are. The first month of 2017 saw three cats requiring urgent medical care taken in by the shelter. Please read their stories below, and consider making a donation to help relieve the cost of their medical bills.
Merle is a 12-year-old gentleman who was found scavenging for food. Not only is Merle a senior, he is deaf, declawed and came to us with horrible teeth and entropion (a condition where the eyelashes roll into the eyes causing irritation and ulceration). Once a family pet, circumstances left him living alone on the streets to fend for himself. Merle required 2 surgeries to correct his eyes as well as dental surgery. He is now thriving.
Monty is a gentle giant, approximately 2½ years old. He was found as a stray and was bearing weight on only three legs. Radiographs showed his humerus was broken and a portion was also missing. There was evidence of shotgun pellet fragments in his soft tissue. Due to the extent of his injuries the veterinarians felt it best to amputate the leg. It was a painstaking surgery trying to ensure all the fragments had been removed. Monty has come out of surgery and is making a full recovery. He is now happy and most importantly pain free!
Walter is one of the sweetest cats we have ever met. He was brought in with horrendous facial injuries; the worst we had ever seen. It was unclear upon intake the extent of the damage, or even what the damage was exactly to his left eye. Once at the clinic and pain medications administered, the veterinarians determined that the large swelling above and around his eye was a massive tumor! To everyone’s surprise he still had an eye under all that mass. He had emergency surgery the next day. The surgeon was successful in completely removing the entirety of the mass, reconstructing his upper eyelid AND saving his eye! Walter is doing wonderful; yet will require further vet visits and medications to ensure he can keep his eye. Additionally, once recuperated he will require dental work.

We are privileged to witness these three amazing animals fight against all odds and persevere. All they needed was a helping hand. Now, while each are in recovery, we are getting to know each of their personalities before finding them the loving homes that they very much deserve.
To our supporters we ask that you please consider donating to help cover these unexpected veterinary bills. On behalf of Merle, Monty and Walter, thank you.
